This week, I had the opportunity to talk with Jake Gafner as he celebrates the huge accomplishment of launching Wayward (with a little help from the VAULT team). Check out what he had to say below.
Q: What is Wayward?
A: Wayward is best described as ‘adventure tracking made simple’. It enables independent travelers and event organizers to track and share their adventures from around the world.
When we were brainstorming the concept for the Wayward platform we had three types of interactions we wanted to keep in mind.
Q: What is your favorite feature of the new application?
A: My favorite feature is the mobile version of Wayward. It’s easy to use and works when participants go offline, which means organizers won’t need to manage expensive GPS hardware.
Q: What are you most excited about now that the app is launched?
A: I’m most excited to see what people will use Wayward for! The pandemic has impacted everyone across the globe, especially event organizers and its participants. A positive side-effect from this has been that in the past six months there has been a huge spike in road trips, outdoor adventures, and socially distanced alternatives to the traditional “in-person” event.
I love that Wayward offers an easy, affordable way for organizers to run socially distanced events while fulfilling the participant’s need for adventure. Doing all that while capturing the excitement on a single map for spectators to follow along from home? That’s just icing on the cake!
Q: What did you enjoy the most about working with the VAULT team?
A: The entire team at VAULT was super easy to work with and responded quickly to questions and bugs as they came up. We built quite a bit of software over the past few months… an android app, an iOS app, a web app, and an experience for spectators. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the product come together over the past few months. The new version of Wayward is very polished and is definitely ‘market-ready’.

Q: What is next for Lost Travel and Wayward?
A: We have more work to do and have some really exciting features in the works! In the coming months, we’ll be building more robust features for event organizers, working on post-event animations, and much more we can’t share just yet 😉. Give us a follow to stay in the loop.
